Chartering a yacht for 10 people in Dubai

A yacht for 10 people in Dubai is the best-value charter on the water. A 48ft carrying twelve costs AED 2,250 for three hours, AED 225 each, and with ten people aboard rather than twelve there is still room to lie down. It is the point where a private boat becomes cheaper than buying ten dinner-cruise tickets and dramatically better.

The short version

  • Ten guests on a 48ft for three hours is AED 2,250, or AED 225 each.
  • Ten dhow cruise tickets cost AED 990, so the private boat is AED 1,260 more for a completely different day.
  • Ten on a boat licensed for twelve is comfortable; twelve on the same boat is full.
  • Do not size up to the 55ft for ten. You pay AED 900 more for space you will not use.
  • Collect everyone's share before the day. The boat costs AED 2,250 whether nine or ten people board.

Why a yacht for 10 people in Dubai is the sweet spot

Guest capacity on a charter boat is a legal limit, not a comfort estimate. A 48ft licensed for twelve seats twelve, but ten is the number at which people can spread out, someone can lie on the bow, and the swim platform is not a queue.

Ten is also where the arithmetic turns. Below about eight people a shared dhow cruise at AED 99 a head is clearly cheaper. At ten the gap has narrowed to a few hundred dirhams for the whole group, and you get the departure time, the route, the music and the swim stop to yourselves.

Which boat, and what it costs

The 48ft is the right answer for ten in almost every case. It is the most-booked boat in the fleet, it is the cheapest per hour, and it has a low swim platform and a flybridge that ten people can actually use at once.

The 55ft costs AED 1,050 an hour rather than AED 750, AED 900 more across three hours, and buys an air-conditioned saloon and a wider deck. That is worth it for sixteen guests, in high summer, or if someone in the group needs to sit inside. For ten in November it is money spent on space nobody uses.

  • 48ft, 3 hours: AED 2,250 · AED 225 each · the default answer
  • 48ft, 4 hours: AED 3,000 · AED 300 each · lunch aboard, long swim
  • 55ft, 3 hours: AED 3,150 · AED 315 each · saloon and more shade
  • Ten dhow cruise tickets: AED 990 · shared boat, fixed route, dinner included

How to shape three hours for ten

The route that works: out through the Marina channel, past Bluewaters and along JBR, down to the Palm crescent, anchor for forty minutes to swim, then the coast slowly on the way back with the towers lighting up.

Bring your own food. It costs nothing on any boat and a group of ten produces a better spread than most catering does. Ice and a fridge are aboard. If you would rather not carry it, a deck BBQ at anchor runs from AED 180 a head.

One practical note. Collect the money before the day rather than after. The boat costs AED 2,250 whether nine or ten people board, and enthusiasm for transferring money drops sharply once everyone is home.

Ten people, and the twelve-person limit

The licensed capacity of the 48ft is twelve, and that twelve includes everybody: children, infants in arms, and the friend who is only coming for an hour. It does not include the captain and crew, who sit outside the guest count. This is a vessel licence issued against the boat, not a guideline, and no captain will exceed it however politely you ask at the pontoon.

The practical consequence is that a group of ten has two spare places and a group of twelve has none. If your ten might become twelve (and groups do grow between booking and boarding), the 48ft still holds. If ten might become fourteen, you need the 55ft and you should say so when you book rather than on the day.

It is worth being precise about the number in the enquiry for exactly this reason. A boat is allocated against the headcount you give, and changing it forty-eight hours out is usually possible; changing it on the pontoon is not.

Splitting AED 2,250 ten ways

AED 225 a head is the honest comparison number, and it is worth putting next to what people in Dubai spend on an ordinary night out. A mid-range dinner with drinks is AED 250 to AED 400. Brunch runs AED 350 upwards. A club table for ten starts well north of AED 3,000. Against those, three hours of private boat at AED 225 each is not the extravagance it sounds like.

Where it goes wrong is the collection. Ten people is exactly the group size at which someone forgets, someone pays late, and one person ends up carrying AED 500 of other people's fun. The fix is mechanical rather than social: name a single organiser, collect before the deposit goes down, and treat the boat as booked only once the money is in.

  • AED 225 each: three hours, 48ft, ten aboard
  • AED 300 each: four hours with lunch aboard
  • AED 187 each: the same three hours split twelve ways instead of ten
  • AED 99 each: a shared dhow cruise, for comparison, with dinner but no privacy

What ten people fit on, and where they end up

A 48ft has four distinct places to be, and a group of ten distributes across them naturally without anyone feeling crowded. The aft deck seats six or seven in shade and is where the food and the conversation live. The bow has cushions for three or four lying down and is the best seat under way. The flybridge holds four or five with the best view and the most wind. The saloon below is air-conditioned and holds a handful when the sun is high.

Twelve on the same boat works but changes the character. Every seat is occupied, the swim platform develops a queue, and moving from bow to stern means asking people to shift. Ten is the number at which nobody has to negotiate for space.

Occasions that suit a group of ten

Ten is the natural size for a birthday, a hen or stag afternoon, a family gathering with a couple of children, or a small team day out of the office. All of those work on a three-hour 48ft charter without modification.

Two things are worth adding for an occasion rather than a plain day out. Decoration (balloons, a banner, a name on the transom) is arranged in advance and costs from AED 350. And a photographer for the first hour, which is when the light is best and everyone still looks arranged, runs from AED 800. Neither is necessary; both are asked for often enough that they are worth mentioning at the enquiry stage rather than the day before.

Booking ten people onto a boat without friction

The order that works: agree the date with the group first, then enquire, then collect the money, then confirm. Groups that enquire before agreeing a date spend a week reconciling a boat that is free against a Saturday that is not.

Give us the headcount, the date and a rough window when you ask. You will get back which boats are free, what each costs for the hours you want, and the departure times still open. Nothing is held until a deposit goes down, and for a weekend sunset in winter the difference between deciding on Monday and deciding on Thursday is usually the difference between having the slot and not.

  • Agree the date with all ten before enquiring
  • Name one organiser who holds the money and the booking
  • Enquire with headcount, date and rough time window
  • Collect the full amount before the deposit goes down
  • Two to three weeks ahead for a winter weekend sunset

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much is a yacht for 10 people in Dubai?

From AED 2,250 for three hours on a 48ft yacht, which is AED 225 per person. Two hours costs AED 1,500 but leaves no time to anchor and swim.

What size yacht do you need for 10 people?

A 48ft, licensed for twelve. Ten aboard is comfortable with room to spread out. Sizing up to a 55ft costs AED 900 more over three hours and buys space a group of ten will not use.

Is a private yacht cheaper than dhow tickets for ten people?

No, but the gap is small. Ten dhow cruise tickets cost about AED 990 including dinner; a three-hour private 48ft is AED 2,250 with drinks only. You are paying roughly AED 1,260 for the whole group to have the boat, the timings and a swim stop to itself.

How long should a charter be for ten people?

Three hours. Two is over before the group settles and does not include a swim stop. Four hours works if you are eating aboard, and is AED 3,000 on the 48ft.

Can ten people bring their own food and drinks?

Yes, on any boat, at no charge. Every yacht has a fridge and ice. Glass is best avoided on deck, and alcohol needs prior arrangement and is subject to UAE law.

Do children count towards the twelve-person limit?

Yes. The licensed capacity of twelve includes children and infants in arms. It does not include the captain and crew. The limit comes from the vessel licence and cannot be exceeded on the day.

What happens if two people drop out before the charter?

Nothing changes: the rate is per boat, not per person, so AED 2,250 stands whether eight or ten board. This is why it is worth collecting everyone's share before the day rather than after.

Can we decorate the boat for a birthday?

Yes, arranged in advance from about AED 350 for balloons and a banner. You can also bring your own decorations and a cake at no charge. Ask at the enquiry stage rather than the day before.
