What this boat has
- Low, wide swim platform and boarding ladder
- Life jackets in children's sizes onboard
- Fridge and ice included, bring your own catering
Who we put on it
Families and mixed groups of ten to sixteen. Enough shade and saloon space that nobody has to sit in the sun for three hours.
Most people book bigger than they need. If your group sits between two boats, message us: a two-minute conversation usually saves money.
Where everyone sits
The swim platform is the reason this is the family boat: low, wide, and with a boarding ladder a seven-year-old can use unaided. On a higher transom an adult has to help every child in and out, which changes the whole character of a swim stop.
The aft deck is well shaded and seats eight or nine, which matters more than deck area between May and September — shade is the binding constraint on a Dubai charter, not space.
An air-conditioned saloon below gives somewhere to retreat when the sun is high, and somewhere to put a sleeping child. Three cabins provide changing space and somewhere for bags.
The flybridge takes four or five. With sixteen aboard the boat is comfortable rather than full, which is the intent — sixteen is the licence, twelve or thirteen is the pleasant number.
What it is right for
Families with children
The low platform, the children's life jackets carried as standard, and a crew who slow the day down. Six to eleven is the age this suits best: old enough to use the ladder alone, young enough that forty minutes in the water is the entire point of the day.
Thirteen to sixteen guests
The gap between the 48ft's twelve and the 62ft's three-hour minimum. At AED 1,050 an hour with a two-hour minimum, the smallest booking is AED 2,100 — half what the 62ft's minimum costs.
Summer charters
Good shade and a proper air-conditioned saloon make this the boat to take between May and September, when a shaded deck still sits in the high thirties and somewhere cool to retreat to stops being a luxury.
What it is not right for
A group of twenty, which exceeds the licence by four — that is a legal limit and a captain has no discretion over it. It is also more boat than a couple needs: two people pay the same AED 2,100 that sixteen would, and the 48ft does that evening for AED 1,500.
A charter on the Marina Lyra
Charter time runs berth to berth, so the clock below starts when the lines come off rather than when you arrive. Timings are for a three-hour booking and shift with the length you take.
- 15 minutes before
Boarding with children takes the full fifteen minutes. Carry the child, let the crew take everything else, and note that a pram does not come aboard and there is nowhere to leave one.
- 0:00
Out through the channel at idle speed. Engine noise and gentle motion put a lot of small children to sleep within twenty minutes, which is why the run out is often the quietest part.
- 0:20
Clear of the breakwater and along JBR. Life jackets stay on for anyone small while the boat is under way, and the foredeck is off limits — it moves most and has the least to hold on to.
- 0:40
Inside the Palm crescent, where the water is flat almost every day of the year. Anchor down, and the low swim platform is the reason this is the family boat: a seven-year-old uses the ladder unaided.
- 1:20
Forty minutes in the water with floats and snorkels. Nobody queues, and the crew stay on deck watching for the whole stop.
- 2:00
Food at anchor or under way, then the coast slowly on the way back with the saloon available when the sun gets high.
- 2:45
The lit channel and alongside. On a two-hour booking the Palm is the turn rather than the stop.
Marina Lyra against the rest of the fleet
The 48ft Azure Pearl is AED 300 an hour cheaper and right for twelve or fewer, though it has a higher transom and less shade. The 62ft Desert Wind carries six more guests but imposes a three-hour minimum, so its smallest booking is AED 4,200 against AED 2,100 here. For a family, or for any group of thirteen to sixteen, this is the boat.

Questions about the Marina Lyra
How much does the Marina Lyra cost to charter?
AED 1,050 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum: so AED 2,100 for the shortest charter. Crew, fuel and marina fees are inside that rate, and there is no separate booking fee.
How many guests can the Marina Lyra carry?
Up to 16. That number comes from the vessel licence rather than from deck space, it includes children and infants, and a captain cannot exceed it. Give us your real headcount and we will move you up a size if it is close.
How big is the Marina Lyra?
55 feet, built as a Azimut 55, with 3 cabins and a crew of 2.
Can we swim from the Marina Lyra?
Yes, on any charter of three hours or more. We anchor in sheltered water behind the Palm Jumeirah crescent or off the World Islands and put out the swim ladder, snorkels and floating mats. A 2 hour charter stays under way. There is not time to anchor properly.
What is included with the Marina Lyra?
Captain and crew, fuel, all marina and departure fees, chilled water, soft drinks and ice, swim equipment, life jackets in adult and children's sizes, and a Bluetooth sound system. Catering and any extras are agreed in writing beforehand.
