Grand Prix weekend

Watching the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from a yacht

Watching the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from a yacht means a berth in Yas Marina, and only the trackside row — berths 36 to 56, sized for boats of 35 to 60 metres — actually sees the circuit. Everything smaller berths in the same marina for the passes, the concerts and a broadcast screen, which is a good weekend at a fraction of the money and is what most people are actually buying.

2026 race weekend
3-6 December, race on Sunday the 6th
Trackside berths
Numbers 36-56, for 35-60m yachts
Book trackside by
Six to twelve months out
Race tickets
Not included with any berth

The 2026 race runs 3 to 6 December at Yas Marina Circuit, with the race itself on Sunday 6 December. Yas Marina holds 227 berths for boats from 8 to 90 metres, plus visitor berths outside the main basin taking up to 175 metres, and around 245 yachts are in it on race weekend. The number that matters is none of those: it is that roughly twenty of the 227 have a view of the track.

We are a Dubai operator and we do not hold berths at Yas. What we do is arrange the boat and the berth through the fleet that holds them, name that operator before you pay anything, and tell you which of the two products above you are actually being quoted for. That distinction is where race-weekend enquiries go wrong, and it is not usually an accident.

If the budget does not reach a trackside berth, the honest alternative is worth saying out loud: charter in Dubai that weekend instead. The Dubai coast is unusually quiet on Grand Prix Sunday because a large part of its market is 130 kilometres down the road, and our own boats run at their normal rates.

What is included

  • The berth arranged through the partner fleet that actually holds it
  • The operator and the vessel named before you pay anything
  • Marina guest passes for everyone aboard
  • A straight answer on whether your boat size will see the track
  • Transfer and timing planning from Dubai, 130km up the coast

Worth knowing

  • Under 30 metres, your boat does not see the track. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a berth.
  • Buy the grandstand ticket separately, and buy it early. No berth carries one.
  • We are a Dubai operator. The Yas berth is arranged through the fleet that holds it, and we name them before you commit.

Which Yas Marina berths actually see the track

Yas Marina is one of the few circuits in the calendar where boats moor along the harbour rather than offshore, which is where the whole idea comes from. It is also where the idea gets oversold, because the marina is much bigger than the part of it that faces the circuit.

The trackside row is berths 36 to 56, in the south-west of the marina, and it takes yachts of 35 to 60 metres. That is the row people mean when they say they watched the race from a boat, and it is the row that is gone first. Three visitor berths outside the main basin — V10, V15 and V26 — also see the circuit and take the largest boats afloat, up to 175 metres.

Everything else berths for boats of 8 to 30 metres and has no sightline to the track at all. The marina puts broadcast screens in the north-east section for exactly that reason. This matters for anyone reading this page off the back of a Dubai charter: our own fleet tops out at 85ft, which is 26 metres, and 26 metres is firmly in the band that does not see the track.

A berth is not a race ticket

This is the single most expensive misunderstanding of the weekend. A marina guest pass gets you onto the jetties and pontoons, into the Oasis areas and into the evening concerts. It does not get you a grandstand seat, and it does not get you into the paddock.

Grandstand and paddock tickets are bought separately from the circuit, and they sell on their own timetable rather than the marina's. A group that books a berth in August and thinks about tickets in November has done the two halves in the wrong order.

The arrangement that actually works for a boat without a track view is the obvious one once someone says it: buy a grandstand ticket for the race itself, and use the boat as the base for the other three days. The concerts, the marina, the nights aboard and the walk-in access are the part a hotel cannot give you, and the ninety minutes of racing are the part the boat cannot.

What an Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yacht weekend costs

There is no rate card for this weekend and anyone showing you one is quoting something else. Race-weekend yachts are sold as packages covering the boat, the berth, marina passes and nights aboard, and the ranges brokers publish run from around AED 175,000 to well past a million depending on the boat and, far more than the boat, on which berth comes with it.

Hold that against the ordinary number for context. A mid-size crewed yacht in Abu Dhabi outside race week is about AED 900 an hour, so a three-hour charter is somewhere near AED 2,700. Race weekend is not an expensive version of that charter; it is a different product that happens to float.

Between the two extremes there is a real middle that nobody advertises, because it is the cheap option: a berth without a track view, on a boat in the 8-to-30-metre band, for the weekend. You get the marina, the passes, the concerts and somewhere to sleep in a town where December hotel rates are at their annual peak. Ask for that one by name — it will not be offered.

Options

Ways to do this

  • Trackside berth

    Berths 36-56 · 35-60m

The row that sees the circuit. Applied for through the fleet that holds it, and realistically gone six to twelve months ahead.

  • Marina berth, no track view

    8-30m · the whole weekend

Passes, concerts, nights aboard and a broadcast screen, at a fraction of the trackside number. Pair it with a grandstand ticket.

  • Race weekend in Dubai instead

    From AED 750 an hour

Our own boats, normal rates, and a coast that is quieter than usual because half its market is in Abu Dhabi.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can you watch the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from a yacht?

From some yachts. Only Yas Marina's trackside row, berths 36 to 56, has a sightline to the circuit, and those berths take boats of 35 to 60 metres. Three visitor berths outside the main basin, V10, V15 and V26, also see it. Boats of 8 to 30 metres berth out of sight of the track and watch on the marina's broadcast screens.

When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2026?

3 to 6 December 2026 at Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, with the race on Sunday 6 December.

Does a Yas Marina berth include race tickets?

No. Marina guest passes cover the jetties and pontoons, the Oasis areas and the evening concerts. Grandstand seats and paddock access are bought separately from the circuit, on a different timetable.

How much does an Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yacht charter cost?

It is quoted as a weekend package rather than by the hour. Published broker ranges run from about AED 175,000 to well over a million, covering the boat, the berth, marina passes and nights aboard. A mid-size crewed yacht in Abu Dhabi outside race week is about AED 900 an hour by comparison.

How far ahead do you have to book a Grand Prix berth?

Trackside berths go six to twelve months ahead and the good ones are usually spoken for by the summer. A berth without a track view is a different market and three months is often still workable.

How big does a yacht have to be to see the track at Yas Marina?

Thirty-five metres, about 115ft, is the floor for the trackside row. Below that the marina has no berth that faces the circuit, which is why most Dubai charter fleets cannot offer a track view at any price.
