When to go, and what the weather does
Dubai's charter season runs October to April, and the rest of the year is a question of timing rather than a closed door. What each month is actually like.
November through March is the comfortable half of the year: clear air, flat sea, and evenings you can sit out in without thinking about it. That is also when the weekend and sunset slots go first, which is the trade — the best weather in Dubai is the least available water.
The rest of the year is a question of timing rather than a closed season. July and August have the calmest water of the year, genuinely, if you go before nine in the morning or after six in the evening; the middle of those days is unpleasant and no amount of shade fixes it. May, June and September are the best value on this coast and the months we would push anyone flexible towards.
Two things move every year and are worth re-checking rather than assuming: Ramadan and both Eids, which shift by about eleven days annually and change what is running and how the evenings work. New Year is the opposite problem — a fixed date that sells out in November, so the decision has to be made in September.

December in Dubai: what it is worth, and what it is not
December in Dubai is worth it for the weather and not for the price: daytime air sits around 24°C with low humidity, the sea is about 22°C, and everything outdoors that is unusable in August works — but hotel rates roughly double against October and the last fortnight of the month is the busiest of the year.
Questions people ask
Is there a month when charters stop running in Dubai?
No. Boats run every day of the year, including through summer and across both Eids. What changes is the time of day worth going: between June and September the charter moves to early morning or after sunset, and the middle of the day is simply not sold as a good idea.
How much does the sea temperature actually change through the year?
It runs from about 21°C in January and February to about 34°C in August. The January figure is swimmable for most people for a short stop and cold enough that many skip it; the August figure is warm enough that the swim stop stops cooling anyone down, which surprises people more.
Which month has the best light for photographs on the water?
November through January. The air is clearest, the sun sets between 17:35 and 17:50 so the golden hour lands at a civilised time, and the haze that flattens the skyline from May onwards has gone. A two-hour charter leaving ninety minutes before sunset catches all of it.
Sunset cruise in Dubai
A private sunset cruise in Dubai costs from AED 1,500 for two hours on a boat carrying up to twelve, and leaves Dubai Marina about ninety minutes before sunset. You get the light on the way out, the sun going down behind the Palm, and the skyline lit on the run home.
