What you can actually see from the water
The Palm, the World Islands, the Burj Al Arab and how close a boat really gets to each. What is worth the fuel and what looks better from land.
The stretch of coast a charter can reach from Dubai Marina runs, roughly, from the Burj Al Arab in the south to the World Islands offshore, and it is far shorter than it looks on a map. Two hours gets you the Marina channel, JBR and Bluewaters. Three adds the Palm frontage and a swim stop inside the crescent. Five is what the World Islands actually take.
Most of what people want to see is better from the water than from land, and a few things are worse. The Burj Al Arab is designed to be seen from the sea and a boat gets closer to it than any public road does. The Burj Khalifa is eighteen kilometres inland and reads as a distant spike on a clear day and as nothing at all on a hazy one — worth knowing before it becomes the reason for the trip.
The guides below are mostly about which landmark repays the fuel. That is a real question on a boat charged by the hour: the difference between a route that takes in the Palm properly and one that also chases the World Islands is about two hours and, at 62ft, AED 2,800.

A Dubai Fountain boat ride: the lake, and what you see
The Dubai Fountain boat ride is a short crossing of Burj Lake at Downtown in a small traditional-style abra, timed so that you are on the water while the fountain runs — about half an hour, tickets sold at the lakeside, and no connection whatsoever to the sea.

Questions people ask
How much of the Dubai coastline can you actually see in one charter?
About twelve kilometres of it in three hours, from the Marina mouth down past JBR and the length of the Palm's western crescent, with a swim stop inside it. Adding the World Islands roughly doubles the distance and needs five hours, because they sit four kilometres offshore of the mainland.
Can a boat go inside the Palm Jumeirah, or only around it?
Inside. The water between the fronds and behind the crescent is open to leisure traffic and it is the calmest water on this coast, which is exactly why the swim stop happens there rather than in open sea. The Atlantis frontage is approached from outside the crescent.
Is the Dubai Water Canal reachable on a charter from the Marina?
Not on our boats. The canal has fixed low bridges that a flybridge yacht cannot clear, so it is run by purpose-built low-profile boats that board within the canal itself. From the Marina you would be looking at a separate trip rather than a detour.
Boat tours and trips in Dubai
A private boat tour in Dubai starts at AED 750 per hour from Dubai Marina and runs two to five hours depending on how far along the coast you want to go. Every tour is private (you are not sharing a deck with strangers), and the route is yours to change on the day.
