Dubai's cheapest real yacht charter, and what AED 1,500 buys

AED 1,500 buys a two-hour private charter on a 48ft yacht in Dubai Marina for up to twelve guests, with the captain, crew, fuel, marina fees, water, soft drinks and ice all included. Split across a full boat that is AED 125 a head, less than dinner, and it is the cheapest genuine charter on this coast.

The short version

  • AED 1,500 is two hours on a 48ft yacht for up to 12 guests, all-in.
  • That is AED 125 per person on a full boat, or AED 750 each for two people.
  • It does not include a swim stop: anchoring needs three hours, from AED 2,250.
  • Anything advertised under AED 1,000 for a private boat is almost always a per-seat shared cruise.
  • The best AED 750 you can add is the third hour, not a bigger boat. It buys the swim stop, which is what people remember.

What is inside the number

The rate is per boat and per hour, published by boat size, and the hour runs berth to berth. Two hours on our 48ft is AED 750 an hour, so AED 1,500, and nothing is added at the end. That matters more than it sounds, because the most common way a Dubai charter quote turns out cheaper than it is involves fuel and marina fees arriving separately.

For that money you get the whole boat. Not a section of a deck, not a seat with a number: the boat, its captain and its crew, for two hours, with nobody else aboard.

  • Captain and crew for the full two hours
  • Fuel for the agreed route, and all marina and departure fees
  • Chilled water, soft drinks and ice
  • Bluetooth sound system, shaded aft deck and a flybridge
  • Life jackets in adult and children's sizes, and towels

What two hours actually covers

Out through the Marina channel at low speed, which takes about twelve minutes and is where most of the photographs happen. Then past Bluewaters and under Ain Dubai, along the JBR shoreline, and a turn towards the Palm before heading back.

You will not reach Atlantis and turn round comfortably in two hours, and you will not anchor. Both need three. If a swim stop is the point of the day, book the extra hour rather than trying to compress it. The crew will tell you the same thing.

Where the money goes if you spend more

The next AED 750 buys the third hour, and it buys the best part of the charter: forty minutes at anchor in the flat water behind the Palm crescent, with the ladder down, snorkels out and the engines off. Of every upgrade on the price list, this is the one that changes the day most.

After that, the money buys size rather than time. AED 1,050 an hour moves you to a 55ft for sixteen guests with a proper saloon; AED 1,400 to a 62ft for twenty-two. Neither is a better two hours. They are a bigger guest list.

  • AED 1,500: 2 hours, 48ft, 12 guests, no swim stop
  • AED 2,250: 3 hours, 48ft, 12 guests, one swim stop
  • AED 2,100: 2 hours, 55ft, 16 guests, air-conditioned saloon
  • AED 4,200: 3 hours, 62ft, 22 guests

What AED 1,500 does not buy

Food beyond drinks. You may bring your own at no charge on any boat and most groups do; catering arranged through us starts at AED 120 a head. Alcohol is by prior arrangement and subject to UAE law.

It also does not buy a weekend sunset slot in January at short notice. Those are the most contested hours in the Dubai calendar and they go two to three weeks ahead. The same AED 1,500 midweek in June buys the same boat with the sea at its flattest.

How the cheapest yacht charter in Dubai compares to everything else

The number only means something next to the alternatives, and Dubai gives you several at that price point. A dhow dinner cruise is AED 99 to AED 149 a head for two hours with a buffet: cheaper for two people, more expensive for twelve, and a completely different evening. Jet skis are AED 450 an hour each. A speedboat sightseeing tour sits around AED 1,200 for ninety minutes.

What AED 1,500 buys that none of those do is exclusivity and control. Nobody else is aboard, the route is yours to change, and the boat waits while you take photographs. Whether that is worth the difference depends entirely on how many of you there are.

  • Two people: a dhow cruise at AED 99 each is far better value than AED 750 each
  • Four to six people: roughly level on cost, and the private boat wins on experience
  • Eight to twelve people: the private charter is cheaper per head than almost anything else
  • More than twelve: you need the 55ft or 62ft, and the maths starts again

The two hours, laid out properly

Boarding is fifteen minutes before the hour you booked, and the clock starts when you leave the berth rather than when you arrive at the pontoon. That is worth knowing because a group that turns up at the stated time rather than fifteen minutes early spends the first ten minutes of a paid hour finding the boat.

From the berth it runs roughly like this: twelve minutes down the Marina channel at idle speed, twenty minutes along the JBR and Bluewaters frontage with Ain Dubai on the beam, twenty minutes out towards the Palm and the turn, then the run home with the skyline lighting up behind you. Call it fifteen minutes of manoeuvring and one hour forty of actual water.

There is no dead time in a two-hour charter, which is both its strength and its limitation. It is a continuous sightseeing run, not an afternoon at anchor.

Who AED 1,500 is genuinely right for

It suits three groups particularly well. A family or a group of friends who want the skyline and the photographs without a full afternoon committed. A couple marking something, where two hours at sunset is the occasion and the price is secondary to the timing. And a first-timer who is not yet sure whether they like being on a boat, for whom two hours is exactly the right amount of finding out.

It suits one group badly: anyone whose mental picture of the day involves swimming, floating on an inflatable, or eating a long lunch at anchor. That is a three-hour charter minimum and pretending otherwise leads to a disappointed group and a captain explaining why the anchor is not going down.

How to make AED 1,500 go further

Four things move the value without moving the price. Go midweek, where the same boat and the same weather cost the same money but the slot is yours to choose. Go at the right end of the day. The hour before sunset is the best light of the twenty-four and costs no more than eleven in the morning.

Bring your own food rather than buying catering, which is permitted on every boat and costs nothing. And fill the boat: the rate is per boat, so the difference between six people and twelve is AED 125 a head versus AED 250, for an identical trip.

  • Midweek instead of Friday or Saturday. Same price, better availability
  • Sunset slot rather than midday. Same price, better light
  • Bring your own food and cake: permitted, no charge
  • Fill all twelve places: halves the cost per person
  • Book three weeks ahead for winter weekends, three days for summer mornings

What to watch for in a cheaper quote

Below AED 1,500 for a private boat, something is usually missing rather than discounted. The three most common are per-seat pricing dressed as a charter, a rate that excludes fuel and marina fees until the invoice, and a one-hour minimum that reads cheap and delivers about twenty-five minutes of actual water once you subtract the channel transit each way.

The honest test is to ask three questions before paying anything: is this the whole boat, does the price include fuel and marina fees, and does the clock start at the berth. A straight answer to all three tells you what you are buying. A vague answer to any of them tells you more.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest yacht charter in Dubai?

AED 1,500 for a two-hour private charter on a 48ft yacht carrying up to twelve guests, including crew, fuel, marina fees and drinks. Below that price you are almost certainly looking at a shared cruise sold per seat rather than a private boat.

Is AED 1,500 for a yacht in Dubai a good price?

For a whole 48ft boat with crew for two hours, yes. It is the market floor for a private charter here. Split twelve ways it is AED 125 each. For two people it is AED 750 each, at which point a shared dhow cruise at AED 99 a head is far better value.

Can you swim on a two-hour charter?

No. Two hours is spent under way because there is not enough time to reach a sheltered anchorage, anchor properly and get everyone back aboard. Swimming needs three hours, from AED 2,250.

Are there hidden costs on a Dubai yacht charter?

There should not be. Fuel, crew, marina and departure fees are inside the hourly rate on a properly quoted charter. Anything extra (catering, decoration, a photographer, jet skis alongside) is agreed in writing before the day.

How many people can go on a AED 1,500 charter?

Up to twelve, which is the licensed limit on the 48ft and includes children and infants. The number comes from the vessel licence rather than the deck space, and a captain cannot exceed it.

Is a yacht charter or a dhow cruise better value in Dubai?

It depends on the headcount. For two people a dhow cruise at AED 99 each is far better value. For eight or more, a private charter at AED 1,500 for the whole boat works out cheaper per head and you get the boat to yourselves.

Can you bring your own food and drink on a Dubai yacht charter?

Yes, on every boat and at no extra charge. Most groups bring their own food and a cake. Catering arranged through us starts at AED 120 a head, and alcohol is by prior arrangement and subject to UAE law.

Does the two-hour charter time include boarding?

No. The clock runs berth to berth, and boarding is fifteen minutes before your booked departure. Arrive fifteen minutes early so the two hours you paid for are two hours on the water.
