How to rent a yacht in Dubai

To rent a yacht in Dubai you send four things (the date, the rough timing, how many guests and what the day is for), and get back which boats are free and what each costs. A 25 percent deposit holds the date, the balance is paid on the day, and no licence or experience is needed because every boat comes with a captain.

The short version

  • Send four things: the date, the rough timing, the guest count and what the day is for.
  • Start from the headcount, not the boat. The licensed number is a hard limit and includes children.
  • A 25 percent deposit holds a specific boat on a specific date. Nothing holds without it.
  • No licence, qualification or experience is needed. Every charter comes with a certified captain.
  • The berth pin, captain's name and arrival time should reach you the evening before. Chase them if not.

Step one: work out the number, not the boat

Almost everyone starts by choosing a boat and then discovering it is the wrong size. Start at the other end. Count the guests honestly, including children and infants, because the number on a vessel's licence is a hard limit and a captain cannot exceed it by one.

Then decide the hours. Two hours is a sunset run with no swimming. Three includes an anchor stop. Four or more is a proper day with lunch aboard. Those three shapes cover almost every charter that leaves Dubai Marina.

Step two: ask, and read what comes back

A serious quote names the boat, its length, its licensed guest number, the hourly rate, the minimum hours and what is inside the rate. If a quote is missing any of those, ask before you compare it to another one. A low headline rate with fuel and marina fees added afterwards is not cheaper.

Check whether the price is per boat or per person. A private charter is priced per boat. A shared cruise sold per seat is a different product and the two numbers are not comparable.

  • The vessel name, length and licensed guest number
  • The hourly rate and the minimum charter length
  • Whether fuel, crew and marina fees are included. They should be
  • What is not included: catering, alcohol, decoration, watersports
  • Deposit percentage and the cancellation terms in writing

Step three: hold the date

Twenty-five percent is the normal deposit in Dubai and it holds a specific boat on a specific date. Nothing holds without it, and at weekends between October and April a verbal hold is worth very little. Sunset slots are the most contested hours in the calendar.

Get the cancellation terms at this point rather than later. Ours move the deposit to a new date if you cancel more than seven days out, and retain it inside seven days. Terms vary between operators and the difference matters more than a hundred dirhams on the rate.

Step four: the day before, and the day itself

You should receive a berth number, a map pin, the captain's name and an arrival time. If you have not received those by the evening before, chase them. The Marina has a lot of pontoons and finding the right one at 17:45 with twelve guests is not a good start.

Arrive fifteen minutes early. Charter time runs from when the boat leaves the berth to when it returns, so being late costs you water time rather than pushing the finish back. Shoes come off at the gangway, the safety brief takes two minutes, and then you go.

What the enquiry should actually say

Most enquiries arrive as "how much is a yacht", which cannot be answered, and the resulting exchange takes four messages to reach a price. Four lines gets a boat, a rate and an availability answer in one reply.

Something in this shape works: "Saturday 14 March, around 16:00, four hours. Fourteen guests including two children. Birthday, and we want to swim. Bringing our own food." That is enough to allocate a boat, price it, and tell you what departure times are still free.

If your date is flexible, say so and say how: "that Saturday or the Friday before" doubles the chance of getting the slot you want in season. If your budget is fixed, say that too. It is far more useful to be told what AED 4,000 buys than to be quoted an 85ft you were never going to book.

  • The date, and whether it is fixed or you have alternatives
  • A rough start time and how many hours
  • Total guests, including children and infants
  • What the day is for: birthday, sunset, swimming, client hosting
  • Catering: your own food, arranged through us, or drinks only

How to tell a real charter from a repackaged seat

The most common way a Dubai yacht booking disappoints is not overcharging. It is buying something other than what you thought. A quote that looks unusually cheap for a private boat is usually a per-seat ticket on a shared cruise, described in language borrowed from charter.

Three questions settle it. Is this the whole boat, or a place on it? Does the rate include fuel and marina fees? Does the clock run berth to berth, or from some later point? A straightforward answer to all three tells you what you are buying, and evasiveness on any of them tells you more.

The other pattern worth knowing is the one-hour headline. An hour reads cheap and delivers about twenty-five minutes of actual water once the channel transit is subtracted at each end, which is why reputable operators do not sell it. A two-hour minimum is a sign of an honest rate card rather than a restriction.

What it costs to rent a yacht in Dubai, roughly

Useful to have the shape of the market before you ask, so a quote lands as expected rather than as a surprise. Rates are per boat per hour, by boat size, and the whole boat is yours whether two people or twelve board.

The genuine floor for a private charter on this coast is AED 750 an hour, which is a 48ft carrying up to twelve with a two-hour minimum. AED 1,500 for the smallest real booking you can make. From there it rises with capacity rather than luxury, and the minimum charter length rises with it.

Catering, decoration, a photographer and watersports sit outside the hourly rate and are agreed in writing beforehand. Nothing else should appear at the end.

  • 48ft: AED 750/hr, 12 guests, 2-hour minimum, from AED 1,500
  • 55ft: AED 1,050/hr, 16 guests, 2-hour minimum, from AED 2,100
  • 62ft: AED 1,400/hr, 22 guests, 3-hour minimum, from AED 4,200
  • 85ft: AED 3,200/hr, 35 guests, 4-hour minimum, from AED 12,800
  • Above 35 guests: no yacht is licensed for it; a private dhow from AED 9,000

Timing the booking against the calendar

Notice is the variable most people underestimate, and it swings enormously by season and by day of the week rather than by boat.

Between October and April, a weekend sunset slot wants two to three weeks. The same boat on a Tuesday morning in the same week is usually free three days out. In summer almost everything is available at short notice, and the early-morning slots (which are the best of the year for flat water) are frequently bookable the day before.

The dates that behave differently are New Year, both Eids, National Day at the start of December and the Grand Prix weekend. Those need a month, sometimes more for the larger boats, and prices firm rather than move. If your trip includes one of them, ask before you book flights rather than after.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How do I rent a yacht in Dubai?

Send the date, the rough timing, the guest count and the occasion to a charter operator. They come back with available boats and prices. A 25 percent deposit holds the date and the balance is paid on the day. No licence or boating experience is needed. Every charter yacht comes with a certified captain and crew.

How far in advance do I need to book a yacht in Dubai?

Two to three weeks for a weekend or sunset slot between October and April. Two or three days is usually enough midweek, and in summer a booking for the next day is often possible. Eid, New Year and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend need a month or more.

What documents do I need to rent a yacht in Dubai?

A passport or Emirates ID for the lead booker, and nothing at all for the other guests. You do not need a licence, a boating qualification or an insurance certificate: the vessel's licence and insurance cover the charter.

Can I rent a yacht in Dubai for one hour?

No. Minimums are two hours on smaller boats, three on a 62ft and four on an 85ft, and they are set by the boat rather than by the day. Since the clock runs berth to berth, an hour would be almost entirely the run out and back.

Is it cheaper to book a yacht in Dubai on arrival or in advance?

Neither reliably. Rates do not drop for last-minute bookings at weekends in season, because the boat will sell anyway. Midweek and in summer there is real room to negotiate a longer charter, whether you ask a month ahead or the same morning.

What should I include in a yacht charter enquiry?

The date and whether it is flexible, a rough start time and duration, the total guest count including children, what the day is for, and your catering position. Those five lines get a boat, a price and available departure times in one reply.

How do you know if a Dubai yacht quote is genuine?

Ask three questions: is this the whole boat or a seat on it, does the rate include fuel and marina fees, and does the clock run berth to berth. Straight answers to all three tell you what you are buying. A cheap one-hour headline is the clearest warning sign.

How much does it cost to rent a yacht in Dubai?

From AED 750 an hour for a 48ft carrying twelve, with a two-hour minimum, so AED 1,500 for the smallest real booking. A 55ft is AED 1,050, a 62ft AED 1,400 with a three-hour minimum, and an 85ft AED 3,200 with a four-hour minimum.
